Then of corse we have the set of 8 English oak spindle back chairs consisting of two arm chairs and six side chairs. They are the ultimate dining chair and have the flexibility to also suit the kitchen. I have a similar set in my dining room at home of which I have included a picture to give you an idea of how they look. They are hand woven rush seats too so they are very comfortable to sit on.
They are very comforable and sturdy and are perfect for the everyday rigours of family life, withstanding the knocks of small children whilst taking the weight of adults for Christmas and Thanksgiving dinners.
This set have just come back from the restorers where they had a repolish and the seats were re-woven with rush. The grain of the oak has a lovely finnish to it and the repolish has really accenuated the beautiful grain and burl of the wood – they have really come up a treat and are ready for use in your home immediately. The stretchers are lovely hand turned.
The chairs are named spindle backs for obvious reasons and each one of the spindles would be hand turned so you can see the amount of time and craftmanship that has gone into the making of each individual chair. These will last for a long time and can be passed down from generation to generation and thus are a sound investmant.
You are viewing an absolutely wonderful English rustic Barley twist table and Windsor chair set. This really is perfect for that farmhouse, rustic look in your kitchen and both chairs and table are hand crafted from the finest oak.
The distinctive barley twist legs are what give this table its name, hand carved as they are and depicting barley twists. Its a very solid and chunky table and would look equally at home in the kitchen as in the dining room.
The oak has a lovely veneer to it and this has just benefitted from a polish at the restorers so it is ready for home use right away. To the side and the top are the hand carved mini-alcove designs all around the edge which also gives the table a refectory style. There is a lot of craftmanship gone into this fine specimen. It is extrememly solid and sturdy and offered in perfect condition, and again, is ready for home use right away. This table will last a lifetime.
The table is offerd with the set of a set of 8 Windsor chairs also made from the finest English oak. The set of 8 consists of two arm chairs and six side chairs. They are a design classic and perhaps – in our humble opinion – one of the best style of chairs ever made. They are flexible in that they look equally at home around a dining table as they do in the kitchen.
For as long as I can remember we’ve had a set in our kitchen and they are perfect for withstanding the rigours of daily family life. They are solid, sturdy, comfortable and look great. They are hand crafted from the finest English oak and considerable work goes into the crafting of these fine pieces. Each seperate piece to each chair is hand carved and turned then assembled. This particular set came back from the restores so they have been repolished and are very sturdy and ready for home use right away.
These chairs are built to last and I don’t think I’m exaggerating by saying they will last forever and hence make a great heirloom to pass down from generation to generation. We are expecting a lot of interest in this unique set so get your bids and shipping quotes in early.
You are viewing a delightful English oak refectory table with a matching set of 8 William and Mary chairs. I hope the photos do this stunning set some justice, it’s certainly more impressive in the flesh. If you are looking for that cosy, rustic, provincial farmhouse look then – this is it! We appreciate it’s quite an initial outlay but then this set will last for generations hence making it a great heirloom and investment. This will only appreicate with age. As dining together whether with family and friends is perhaps the most important thing we can do as humans – why not do it in complete and utter style? Refectory tables were originally used by monks in their refectorys, hence the name. You can imagine them drinking trappist ales in their flagons! The table is solid as an ox – chunky, wobble free, resiliant to everything a family can throw at it. We had a similar table when I grew up – it’s still there. The legs are hand turned and chunky. A top sits the large eating surface in true refectory style and this is 8 feet long – and you can see how it comfortably sits eight people. Then we have the set of 8 William and Mary style high back chairs. Two arms and six sides. The William and Mary style is from the Tudor era in 17th Century England and again is perfect for those looking for the cosy, rustic, provincial farmhouse look – they also look great in the Great Hall of a castle! Again solid and sturdy, wobble free and very comfortable to sit in – perhaps made even more comfortable with some patterned tie down cushions – a great project for after the purchase so you can match it in with your colour scheme. The chairs are oak and match the table perfectly. They are also incredibly solid and chunky and will last for ever. We bought this set from a dealer in Debenham Suffolk, it is offered in great shape. Get your bids in early, this unique piece will not be hanging around for long. If required we could sell the table and chairs separately – we also have benches and ladderbacks that would work well around this table.
